Trifolium subterraneum cover cropping enhances soil fertility and weed seedbank dynamics in a Mediterranean apricot orchard

چکیده

Abstract The soils of Mediterranean semiarid environments are commonly characterized by low levels organic matter and mineral elements, as well severe weed infestations, which, taken together, cause an intensive use auxiliary inputs (tillage, fertilizers, herbicides). Although cover crops recognized to sustainably improve soil health, the impact Trifolium subterraneum L. cropping needs specific attention. This research investigates for first time effects over 4 years T. spontaneous flora crops, after either incorporating their dead mulches into or leaving them on surface, (SOM), macroelements, nitrogen, microelements, seedbank dynamics indicators quality in apricot orchard. Compared a conventional management control, crop with burying mulch increased amount SOM (+ 15%), ammoniacal 194%) nitric 308%) assimilable P 2 O 5 5%), exchangeable K 14%), Na 32%), 16%), Fe Mn 28%), Zn 36%), Cu 24%), while it decreased size (? 54%) enhanced biodiversity. These findings suggest that may be environment-friendly tool enhance limit input supply orchards.

Foliar zinc biofortification effects in Lolium rigidum and Trifolium subterraneum grown in cadmium-contaminated soil

Zinc (Zn) is an important micronutrient that can alleviate cadmium (Cd) toxicity to plants and limit Cd entry into the food chain. However, little is known about the Zn-Cd interactions in pasture plants. We characterized the effects of foliar Zn application and Cd uptake by ryegrass (Lolium rigidum L.) and clover (Trifolium subterraneum L.) grown on Cd-contaminated soils; all combinations of fo...

Intercropping Enhances Productivity and Maintains the Most Soil Fertility Properties Relative to Sole Cropping

Yield and nutrient acquisition advantages are frequently found in intercropping systems. However, there are few published reports on soil fertility in intercropping relative to monocultures. A field experiment was therefore established in 2009 in Gansu province, northwest China. The treatments comprised maize/faba bean, maize/soybean, maize/chickpea and maize/turnip intercropping, and their cor...

Short-Term Response of Soil Spiders to Cover-Crop Removal in an Organic Olive Orchard in a Mediterranean Setting

This study shows that disturbance caused by cover-crop removal (CCR) in an organic olive orchard affects ground-spider populations. The effect of CCR on various organic olive-orchard plots was assessed by monitoring the abundance and diversity of ground-dwelling spiders. Covered plots in the organic olive orchard were compared with uncovered plots where the covers had been removed mechanically....

Influence of agricultural factors on weed, carabid and bird richness in a Mediterranean cereal cropping system

Using a multimodel inference approach, the most relevant field-level and landscape context factors explaining the simultaneous variability of bird, carabid and weed species richness were identified and interpreted in a low-intensity cereal farming system in central Spain. Weed species richness was negatively influenced by sowing density, herbicides and surroundingmean field size. Carabid specie...
